Benefits of Deconstruction & Salvage Services

Birch Group specializes in expert deconstruction and salvage, carefully disassembling buildings to recover salvage building materials, including wood, stone, and fixtures for reuse. This approach lowers costs while reducing waste and embodied carbon.

With grants and tax incentives available, our services not only protect the planet but can also put money back in your pocket!

1. Economic
Tax Savings: Material donations can generate significant tax benefits, putting cash back in your pocket.

Cost & Resource Efficiency: Reclaimed materials reduce expenses for homeowners, businesses, and developers while keeping quality items out of landfills.

Community & Workforce Impact: Deconstruction creates opportunities for artisans, builders, and skilled craftsmen, supporting organizations repairing homes, and provides living-wage training that strengthens local communities.
2. Environmental
Waste & Emissions Reduction: Deconstruction diverts tons of debris from landfills and incinerators, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the need for toxic waste sites.

Resource Conservation: Salvaging wood, stone, and other materials preserves forests, reduces mining and energy use, and keeps materials local for reuse or creative repurposing.

Sustainable Compliance: Reclaimed materials support LEED certification, responsible hazardous material handling, and greener building practices for both residential and commercial projects.
3. Social
Job Creation & Career Growth: Deconstruction requires more skill and labor than demolition, generating sustainable “green-collar” jobs and higher wages across trades, logistics, and administration.

Training & Vocational Opportunities: Our programs equip participants with life and employment skills, expanding career paths while reducing recidivism and fostering personal dignity.

Community & Resource Access: Reclaimed materials provide affordable, high-quality resources for families, schools, nonprofits, artists, and businesses, supporting local preservation, creativity, and safer neighborhoods.

3 Types of Deconstruction Services

Three simple steps of deconstruction

Our Deconstruction Process

We carefully disassemble structures to reclaim materials for reuse. Our process combines precision, safety, and sustainability, turning valuable building components into resources for new projects.

1. Pre-Deconstruction
We schedule a site visit to evaluate your structure and identify reclaimable materials.

Our team researches available grants and incentives tailored to your specific project.

We create a Preliminary Materials List (PML) of what can be salvaged.

The PML is sent to a qualified IRS-approved appraiser to generate a donation estimate of your expected tax benefits.
2. Deconstruction
Birch Group crews carefully disassemble, not demolish, to maximize material recovery.

On average, we reclaim 80% of the items listed in the PML—from lumber and flooring to cabinets, doors, and fixtures.

Reclaimed materials are either integrated into new builds, repurposed into furniture, or placed in our reuse store for community benefit for a short period, never longer than 3 months.

The process significantly reduces landfill waste while creating economic and environmental value.
3. Post-Deconstruction
We prepare a Final Materials List (FML) documenting exactly what was salvaged.

The FML is submitted to your appraiser to finalize donation values.

Birch Group completes the paperwork required for tax incentives and grants, streamlining the process for you.

You walk away with verified tax savings, grant support, and the knowledge your project directly fueled the circular economy.
